Mechanical Seals for Oil & Gas

Oil & Gas →

In the oil & gas industry – with its on-shore and off-shore areas – the highest demands are placed on the reliability and durability of all system components under extreme operating conditions.

CHETRA mechanical seals meet these requirements through special design features and materials, safety reserves and emergency running characteristics.

Already in the fundamental design, CHETRA takes into account technical sealing requirements such as high pressures (>100 bar), high speeds, dirty/mixed media, special requirements due to seawater and unmanned platforms in off-shore operation.

Pipeline and booster pump station

Oil & Gas

Quality in Detail - Also for Major Projects

In Far East, CHETRA equipped pipeline and booster pumps in more than 1000 stations with mechanical seals.

Special requirements arose due to high pressures of up to 130 bar at the mechanical seal. The media characteristics – crude oil with up to 30% wax content, sulphur content, contamination and solids – had to be reliably controlled. For this purpose, installation sites were located outdoors with extreme temperature fluctuations.

FPSO vessel off-shore

Oil & Gas

Innovative Solution - New Off-Shore Project

The Sanha FPSO project is the first project where the complete facilities to process approximately 37,000 barrels of LGP per day into propane-butane products are portably located on a ship.

The term FPSO stands for Liquified Petroleum Gas – Floating Petroleum Storage and Off-Take Vessel. Routine flaring of gas is not required with this method.

The processing vessel Sanha is located off-shore off the West African coast and is operated by a global oil company.

CHETRA equipped the 5 main compressors with mechanical seals and supply equipment. In view of the explosive environment, the highest safety requirements had to be met, which were met by using new unconventional components.

Water injection pump installation

Oil & Gas

Customized Solution - Long Service Life in "WIP" Application

In the Algyö oil field in southern Hungary, high abrasiveness of the medium as well as the strong axial movements of the 8-stage "WIP" water injection pumps led to very low service lives of the originally used seals.

In order to minimize production losses due to replacement, the operator decided to switch to stationary CHETRA mechanical seals, which are specially designed for a high pv application range. Including solid tungsten carbide and silicon carbide rings were still used. The service life (MTBF) improved by a factor of 4.
